Yaanendriya is building indigenous sensing, navigation and control technologies to power autonomous systems. Ashlin Rajan explores how the deep-tech company is strengthening India’s autonomy ecosystem.

As autonomous systems move from controlled environments into real-world applications, the ability to sense, navigate and respond reliably is becoming a defining technology challenge. While India has witnessed rapid growth in drones, robotics and autonomous platforms, many critical sensing and navigation components continue to depend on global suppliers. 

Yaanendriya is addressing this gap by developing indigenous perception, navigation and control technologies that form the foundation of autonomous machines. By focusing on the underlying technology layer rather than individual end applications, the deep-tech company aims to become a specialist partner for OEMs building the next generation of aerial, ground and underwater systems.

Its journey reflects a larger ambition, strengthening India’s capability to design and manufacture the critical technologies powering intelligent mobility.



Building the autonomy layer
At the heart of every autonomous machine lies a complex chain of capabilities, sensing motion, understanding surroundings, estimating position, navigating accurately and converting decisions into control actions. Yaanendriya is focused on developing these fundamental technologies that act as the “nervous system” of autonomous platforms.
The company’s name reflects this philosophy, with Y?na representing movement or a vehicle and Indriya referring to sensing. Its core focus spans autonomous aerial, ground and underwater systems, with a long-term roadmap extending into automotive, aerospace and orbital applications.
Rather than developing complete end-use platforms, they aims to provide the specialised technology layer that enables other companies to build innovative solutions. Its offerings are centred around inertial sensing, positioning, navigation, compute and control platforms, allowing OEMs to focus on solving application-specific challenges.

Addressing critical gaps
The growing adoption of autonomous systems has created a need for reliable and specialised component providers. According to Vamshi Bharadwaj M V, Co-Founder and CEO, many companies developing drones, autonomous vehicles and industrial robots still need to build significant portions of the underlying technology stack internally.
The company identified an opportunity to create a deeper ecosystem of specialised subsystem providers in India, similar to mature global technology markets where component companies enable innovation across multiple industries.

This challenge becomes more significant in environments where GNSS signals are unreliable, disrupted or unavailable. Yaanendriya is therefore developing technologies that enable autonomous platforms to understand their own state through inertial sensing and sensor fusion, reducing dependence on external positioning sources.

From research to products
Yaanendriya’s origins trace back to work around inertial measurement and motion sensing emerging from the Indian Institute of Science ecosystem. One of its early technical milestones was demonstrating that commercially available MEMS sensors could deliver significantly improved performance through advanced algorithms, calibration and signal-processing techniques.

The development journey required nearly two years of continuous experimentation and refinement before the technology moved from research into practical applications.
The company subsequently developed the YDX inertial sensor family and the SynCore navigation and control platform. These solutions have since been integrated across diverse applications, including unmanned systems, robotics, motion technologies and specialised robotic platforms.

With more than 20 customers adopting its technologies and applications associated with the Indian Army and other institutional users, Yaanendriya has progressed from laboratory innovation towards real-world deployment. The company has also entered into MoU with 515 Army Base Workshop (EME).

Technology building blocks
Yaanendriya’s product ecosystem is built around two complementary technology families.
The YDX series serves as the company’s inertial sensing platform. Using accelerometers, gyroscopes, calibration techniques, embedded processing and sensor-fusion technologies, it enables machines to understand motion, orientation and state.
SynCore functions as the navigation and control platform, processing information from different sensors, performing estimation and navigation calculations, and translating those decisions into commands for motors, propulsion systems and actuators.
The company has designed both platforms to be modular and platform-agnostic, enabling adaptation across UAVs, autonomous ground vehicles, industrial robots, AGVs and underwater systems.

Scaling innovation
Developing critical sensing and navigation technologies requires overcoming challenges across performance, manufacturing and commercialisation.
Vamshi highlighted that MEMS sensors involve complexities such as noise, bias, temperature effects, vibration and unit-to-unit variation. The company’s differentiation lies not merely in assembling components but in developing expertise across calibration, compensation, filtering, sensor fusion and state-estimation algorithms.
Manufacturing repeatability has been another key focus area. As products move from prototypes to larger volumes, calibration, testing procedures and validation become essential parts of production. The company has therefore been strengthening its calibration methodologies, testing infrastructure and qualification capabilities.
Vamshi emphasised that trust is equally important in critical technology adoption. Continuous field validation, customer engagement and product iteration have helped the company move towards wider commercial deployment.

Expanding the technology stack
Following its recent Rs 150 million funding round led by Piper Serica, Yaanendriya is accelerating investments across research, manufacturing, testing and market expansion.
A major focus area is advancing navigation and control capabilities, including the development of high-precision indigenous MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes. The company is also strengthening calibration, environmental testing and qualification infrastructure to support demanding applications across aerial, automotive, underwater and aerospace environments.

Its technology roadmap includes PerceptionXIO, a platform designed to strengthen inference and perception capabilities by integrating information from multiple sensing sources. Alongside this, Yaanendriya continues to develop advanced inertial navigation systems and GNSS-denied navigation solutions.

Building India’s deep-tech future
Yaanendriya’s future strategy centres on enabling a stronger indigenous technology ecosystem. The company is targeting sectors including defence and aerospace, drones, robotics, industrial automation, automotive, advanced mobility and underwater autonomous systems.

According to Vamshi, India’s future manufacturing strength will depend not only on producing complete machines but also on owning the critical technologies within them.
With India as its primary development and manufacturing base, the company is expanding its international focus towards Europe and Africa while evaluating opportunities in Southeast Asia.

Yaanendriya’s ambition is to make technologies designed and engineered in India an integral part of autonomous machines operating globally, creating the sensing, navigation and control foundation for the next generation of intelligent systems.
