Safcon ensures product integrity with high performance security seals

In this interview, Rajesh Banka, Managing Director, Safcon Seals Pvt Ltd, highlights the company’s focus on innovation, automation and global expansion to strengthen its presence in the advanced security sealing solutions market.
The security sealing industry is evolving with growing demand for tamper-evident solutions, digital traceability, automation and customised products across utilities, logistics, pharmaceuticals and industrial sectors. In this interview, Rajesh Banka, Managing Director, Safcon Seals Pvt Ltd, discusses the company’s strategy to strengthen its position as a trusted Indian manufacturer of advanced security sealing solutions.
Could you provide an overview of Safcon Seals?
Safcon is a specialised manufacturer of tamper-evident and tamper-resistant security sealing solutions, serving customers across industries where protection against unauthorised access, pilferage, and product or asset manipulation is critical.
Our product portfolio includes polycarbonate meter security seals, plastic security seals, metal container seals, cable security seals and customised tamper-evident sealing solutions. These products are designed with customer-specific logos, serial numbers, barcodes and other identification features to provide both physical security and traceability. We offer more than 50 types of security seal solutions to meet diverse industry requirements.
Our manufacturing capabilities include injection moulding, insert moulding, stainless-steel wire processing, laser marking, inspection and advanced quality-control systems. We continuously strengthen our processes to improve productivity, consistency, traceability and our ability to meet high-volume, customised requirements. Our R&D team plays a key role in developing innovative products and improving manufacturing processes to deliver high-quality solutions.
While electric utilities and the metering sector remain important markets for us, our solutions are used across a wide range of industries, including aviation, water utilities, gas utilities, oil and petroleum, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, agrochemicals, coal and steel, logistics, shipping, banking, food processing, hospitals and testing laboratories.
The common requirement across these industries is the need for a reliable and visible mechanism to identify whether an asset, container, meter, package, equipment or access point has been opened or tampered with. We are also focusing on expanding our international presence and positioning Safcon as a reliable Indian manufacturing partner for security and tamper-evident sealing solutions globally.
How has the company performed during 2025-26? What were the key growth drivers and milestones achieved during the year?
FY 2025-26 was an important year for Safcon as we strengthened our manufacturing capabilities and prepared the organisation for the next phase of growth.
During the year, we witnessed increasing demand for security seals across multiple industries. While utilities and metering continued to remain key markets, we also saw growing opportunities in sectors such as oil and petroleum, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, logistics, shipping, banking and industrial manufacturing, where security and tamper evidence are essential.
We continued to focus on enhancing production capacity, process control and quality systems. With growing customer requirements for uniquely numbered and traceable seals, we strengthened our capabilities in serialisation, barcode identification, laser marking and quality verification.
Automation has also been a major focus area. Our objective is not only to increase production capacity but also to improve consistency, productivity and process reliability through technology adoption.
We have continued to strengthen our export focus and explore opportunities in international markets. Overall, FY 2025-26 was a year of capability enhancement, process improvement and market expansion, creating a strong foundation for future growth.
What key factors give Safcon a competitive advantage in the security sealing market?
Our competitive advantage comes from a combination of product quality, customisation capabilities, manufacturing expertise, flexibility, traceability and customer responsiveness.
Although security seals are small components, their role is extremely critical. They provide the first visible indication of possible interference with an asset, container, meter or access point. Therefore, customers demand consistent quality and reliability in every batch.
One of Safcon’s key strengths is our ability to develop customised solutions based on specific customer applications. We provide features such as company logos, unique serial numbers, barcodes, colour specifications, wire configurations and other identification elements.
Our experience across multiple industries also gives us an advantage. The security requirements of an electricity meter may differ from those of a pharmaceutical container, oil tanker, logistics package or valuables carrier, but our expertise in tamper evidence, identification and traceability enables us to address diverse applications.
We continuously invest in quality improvement, automation and digital traceability to maintain consistent quality at scale. Most importantly, we directly serve end users and ensure the confidentiality, security and integrity expected from a security sealing solution.
What role do exports play in your growth strategy? How are you expanding your global presence?
Exports are a strategic priority for Safcon and will become increasingly important as we expand our business.
The global demand for security and tamper-evident sealing solutions exists across multiple industries, creating opportunities for Indian manufacturers with strong capabilities. Our international strategy focuses on industries such as utilities, industrial manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, oil and gas, logistics, shipping, banking, meter manufacturing and security service providers.
We are particularly targeting markets where asset security, supply-chain integrity, traceability and prevention of unauthorised access are becoming increasingly important.
Our approach is not based only on price competitiveness. We aim to compete through quality, dependable supply, customisation capabilities, traceability, responsiveness and the overall value proposition of Indian manufacturing.
We are also studying specific market requirements, including customer specifications, regulatory standards and certification expectations, to develop solutions suited to individual applications. Our long-term objective is to establish Safcon as an Indian manufacturer with a diversified global customer base.
How do you assess the current state of Indian manufacturing amid global market uncertainty? What opportunities do you foresee?
I remain highly optimistic about the future of Indian manufacturing. Global supply chains are undergoing significant transformation, with companies increasingly focusing on supplier diversification, resilience and alternative manufacturing locations. This presents a major opportunity for India.
India has several advantages, including a large domestic market, engineering capabilities, skilled manpower, a growing supplier ecosystem and improving manufacturing infrastructure.
For specialised component manufacturers, the opportunity is particularly significant. Companies that can deliver international-quality products, competitive costs, consistent supply, traceability and customisation will increasingly become part of global supply chains.
For Safcon, this opportunity exists across utilities and industrial sectors, including electricity, water and gas meters, oil and petroleum, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, logistics, shipping and food transportation.
However, global customers expect more than competitive pricing. They demand quality systems, reliable delivery, documentation, traceability and professional support. Indian manufacturers that can meet these expectations will be well positioned to capture global opportunities.
What is your perspective on the adoption of advanced technologies and automation in Indian manufacturing?
Automation will be one of the key drivers of competitiveness in Indian manufacturing over the coming years.
While India’s labour cost advantage remains relevant, global manufacturing is increasingly driven by productivity, precision, consistency and data-based process control.
At Safcon, we are actively evaluating automation across various manufacturing processes, including wire preparation and insertion, production handling, inspection, serial-number and barcode management, and quality-control operations.
For us, automation is not only about reducing manpower requirements. It is about reducing variability, improving repeatability, increasing throughput and creating a more controlled manufacturing environment.
Indian manufacturers have the capability to compete effectively with global manufacturing hubs. However, faster adoption of automation, digital manufacturing systems and advanced quality-control technologies will be essential.
The future will be driven by a combination of skilled manpower and intelligent automation, and companies that successfully integrate both will gain a competitive advantage.
How do you view the role of government initiatives in strengthening Indian manufacturing? What further support is required?
Government initiatives supporting domestic manufacturing, infrastructure development, exports and ease of doing business have created a positive environment for Indian industries.
Programmes such as Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat and initiatives promoting export-oriented manufacturing are particularly relevant for companies like Safcon that are strengthening domestic production while expanding globally.
Going forward, greater support in areas such as access to advanced manufacturing technologies, automation incentives, skill development, export facilitation, faster customs procedures and assistance with international certifications would further accelerate industrial growth.
For MSMEs and mid-sized manufacturers, entering international markets requires investment in certifications, market development, trade participation and customer acquisition. Greater support in these areas can help more Indian companies become successful exporters.
Infrastructure development, including logistics, ports, warehousing, power availability and digital connectivity, will also play a crucial role in building a globally competitive manufacturing ecosystem.
What emerging opportunities and market segments is Safcon exploring?
We see opportunities across both our existing markets and emerging application areas.
In the electric utility sector, the growth of smart metering and modern utility infrastructure is creating demand for reliable, traceable and tamper-evident sealing solutions.
Beyond utilities, we see significant potential in water and gas utilities, as well as industries where physical security and supply-chain integrity are critical.
Another important opportunity is the integration of physical security with digital identification. Combining tamper evidence with serialisation, barcodes and digital traceability can provide customers with better control over assets and supply chains.
Our strategy is to remain focused on our core expertise while developing customised solutions for applications where we can create meaningful value for customers.
What are Safcon’s growth plans for 2026-27?
Our objective for 2026-27 is to accelerate Safcon’s transformation from a strong domestic manufacturer into a globally competitive security-sealing solutions company.
Capacity expansion will remain a key priority as demand increases across multiple industries. We will continue investing in manufacturing capacity, productivity improvement and automation, particularly in repetitive and precision-sensitive processes.
We are also strengthening digital traceability and production monitoring systems. With customers increasingly requiring unique serialisation and barcode-based identification, the ability to track production and maintain accurate records has become an important value proposition.
Innovation has always been central to Safcon. We were the first company to introduce polycarbonate meter security seals in 2002 as a replacement for lead seals used in electric meters. Today, our anchor polycarbonate meter seals have become an industry standard. Our RevGuard tamper-resistant meter seals offer advanced security features, including a robust four-stage locking mechanism, embossed customer identification, customised serial numbers, encrypted secret codes and digitally verified barcode-based tracking.
International expansion will continue to be a major growth driver. We plan to develop export markets by engaging with utilities, industrial companies, meter manufacturers, distributors and other customers across global regions.
Our long-term vision is to establish Safcon as a trusted global supplier of tamper-evident security seal solutions manufactured in India and serving critical sectors such as utilities, energy, industrial manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, logistics and financial services.
