The Bangalore-based Prominent Machine Tools manufactures tool disc, tool holders, VDI tool disc, VDI tool holders, BMT tool disc & holders, reduction sleeves, and subsidiary accessories for CNC turning & turnmill centres for all over the world. In this interview, Gunasekaran G R, CEO, Prominent Machine Tools, shares more details about the company’s growth plans.

What kind of opportunities are you looking to tap in the machine tools industry?

We are expecting the significant growth from key sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and electronics. Government initiatives such as Make in India are fostering significant growth in high-end machine tool manufacturing. The automotive industry, in particular, has been a major consumer of machine tools. With the rise of electric vehicles and increased foreign direct investment, the demand for advanced machine tools is expected to surge.

What are the USPs of your company?

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines is notable, with the CNC segment anticipated to dominate the market due to its precision and efficiency. Some of key factors are understanding our target audience; offering high-quality products; setting competitive prices; creating a sense of urgency; and creating compelling content.

What are the growth prospects in the auto industry with increasing demand for electric vehicles?

The growth possibilities for the machine tools industry in the electric vehicle (EV) sector are significant, driven by the rapid expansion of the EV market and the need for precision manufacturing. EVs rely heavily on lightweight materials (such as aluminium and composites) to improve efficiency and range. Advanced machine tools are needed for precision machining of lightweight materials to meet quality standards. CNC and laser-based machining systems are critical for producing parts for lithium-ion batteries.

How do you plan to tap other end-user industries?

The fastest-growing sectors include railways, defence, and electronics among others. As we are looking to capitalise on future growth, this list of fast-growing industries in India and future growth sectors can help us make the most of India's economic potential in 2025-26.

How are new technologies aiding growth of the machine tools & accessories industry?

Use of IoT and AI in machine tools ensures high precision and efficiency in any part manufacturing. Automation is essential for mass production of EV components, ensuring scalability. Hybrid machines combining 3D printing and CNC machining offer opportunities for advanced manufacturing. Yes, we are also planning to adapt some of the digitalisation/automation to improve our manufacturing.

What are your plans for IMTEX 2025?

IMTEX is one of the largest trade fairs in India focusing on the metalworking and manufacturing sector. We will launch new variant of tool disc and subsidiary accessories. We are expecting to increase our customer range and gain more visibility among OEMs and machine builders.

What are your growth plans for the company in the coming years?

With the help of IMTEX 2025, we are expecting a big growth by increasing product sales (by supplying precise tool discs all over the world), growing turnover by three times from the present level, and enhancing manufacturing capacity by adding two imported machines.
