ELECRAMA 2020: Empowering Indian economy

With over 1250 exhibitors, ELECRAMA 2020 will focus on the entire energy spectrum – right from renewable energy (RE), digitalization, Industry 4.0, to electric transportation – thus offering opportunities to everyone in the electrical and electronics industry.

India is the world’s third largest producer of electricity, with renewable power plants (which also include large hydroelectric plants) accounting for 34.86 percent of India’s total installed capacity. As of November 30, 2019, the national electric grid in India has an installed capacity of 364.96 GW. “Power sector is one of the most critical components of infrastructure crucial for the economic growth and welfare of nations. Power sector is aiming for export to grow by 400 per cent in next 5 years as Indian economy aims to reach $ 5 trillion by 2024. With the installed power generating capacity of 365,048 MW as of October 2019, India has emerged as the world’s third-largest electricity producer and consumer,” says Anil Saboo, Managing Director, Elektrolites Power Pvt Ltd.

The Indian economy, which has been expanding rapidly in recent years, is estimated to grow at six per cent a year through 2030. India’s small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) have been one of the primary drivers to boost the economy. “The sector’s contribution to the country’s GDP is expected to increase to 22 per cent in 2020,” says Saboo.

Renewables in focus

India has set an ambitious target of generating 175GW clean energy by 2022. However, the government needs to promote storage to ensure 24X7 clean energy supply. Highlighting some of challenges before the industry, Saboo says, “Grid expansion over the next few years will be driven by the government’s ambitious plan to scale up renewable energy to 175 GW by 2022. To develop associated power evacuation infrastructure, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited along with state utilities are implementing the Green Energy Corridor project. The major emerging challenges for the grid are to adoption of smart technology, investment in technology to make grids more reliable, automation in substations, innovative tower design, digitization, technology evolution and up-gradation in infrastructure.”

According to him, the most promising and emerging technology which meeting with future grid requirements are artificial intelligence, blockchain, Industry 4.0, IoT and increasing grid reliability. “New technologies, evolving customer preferences, and the changing competitive landscape are leading many power companies to explore new business models. Some models may help utilities to further enable the energy transition,” he adds.

ELECRAMA: A global platform

Attracted by India’s more than a billion consumers, domestic demand for electronic goods and rising disposable income levels, global giants have either set up or in the process of building manufacturing plants in the country. With India expected to become the fifth largest manufacturing country in the world by the end of year 2020, ELECRAMA is all set to enthrall the international electrical and electronic industry fraternity with latest products and technologies on the display. With over 1250 exhibitors, ELECRAMA 2020 – to be held from January 18-22 at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida - is considered as the largest congregation of power sector ecosystem in the geography.

Organised by Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA), the biennial event offers an ideal platform for deliberation with the industry leaders through knowledge sharing and networking by way of one to one meetings, conferences and seminars. These will create opportunities for the Indian manufacturers to step up the pedal and grab world market share and establish themselves in the global scenario.

IEEMA created a global business vehicle ELECRAMA in 1990, which has grown from strength to strength to emerge as the single largest transmission and distribution (T&D) equipment exhibition in the world. ELECRAMA was conceptualised with the objective of providing a global window to showcase Indian electrical equipment manufacturing capabilities. Since then, every edition of ELECRAMA aims to provide an excellent opportunity to Indian manufacturers to display their products and technologies & manufacturing capabilities to a global audience who are on the lookout to engage with the highly buoyant Indian electrical industry for future tie-ups.

A plethora of opportunity

ELECRAMA Expo 2020 is a platform to link the world to Indian business with regards to technology, new trends, and innovation for the long run energy transition. World Utility Summit (WUS), e-TechNxt, and buildELEC will be hosted concurrently with the expo.

“ELECRAMA 2020 has major concurrent events like World Utility Summit, ETechnxt, RBSM and DBSM, etc where exhibitors from more than 60 countries and visitors from more than 120 countries will come together. ELECRAMA will provide more noticeable growth, increased exports in addition to new segments specially connecting our MSME units to global value chains,” says Anil Saboo, who is also the Chairman of ELECRAMA 2020.

In this edition, the expo will be focusing on the entire energy spectrum along with renewable energy (RE), energy storage, automation, digitalization, Industry 4.0, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and electric transportation opportunities to expose the electrical industry to new technology innovations and disruptions with information to manage the transformation.

Concurrent events

The theme of the WUS 2020, scheduled from January 20-21, is Utility Next. There is an immediate need for utilities to evaluate how the provision and consumption of energy service would happen in future. Through WUS-2020 all participating power utilities (both public and private) can showcase best practices or unique achievements through poster sessions.

E-TechNxt is a leading platform of industry, policymakers & stakeholders that promotes forward looking actions on “NXT” technologies in the “electrification domain”. E-mobility, energy storage and several other areas are dynamically changing the opportunity matrix for the electrical & electronics industry. India is moving towards becoming a $ 5 trillion economy. The challenge of blending technology with innovative business models is real. E-TechNxt by IEEMA is the platform which enables the electrical & electronics industry to re-define its business transformation trajectory by leveraging together diverse next generation technologies at ELECRAMA 2020.

BuildELEC is a unique exposition on building electrical systems. As the defining event for electrically smart and safe buildings, this specialised exhibition on building electrical systems is themed H3O, focusing on homes, hospitals, hotels and offices and showcase energy efficiency, fire safety, building automation, IoT and smart security solutions, to make industrial, commercial and residential buildings, more efficient and safe.

Electrifying growth

The demand for electrical equipment in India is expected to witness a significant expansion on the back of the growth of the power sector. By 2022, domestic demand for generation equipment industry is expected to be between $25-30 billion. For T&D industry, it is estimated to be between $70-75 billion. “As per World Energy Council, 50 per cent investment in energy will be done in Asia till 2030. India has the potential to increase exports of electrical equipment in world market as well as innovate new technology for energy transition in next 5-10 years,” opines Anil Saboo.

Expanding from the traditional power transmission and distribution domain to cover the complete electricity ecosystem, ELECRAMA today is uniquely positioned to offer growth opportunity for everybody in the power industry ecosystem.

Projections for ELECRAMA 2020:

Over 1250 exhibitors
Gross area of 110,000 sq m
450 foreign exhibitors; Overall participation from 120 countries
More than $ 1.5 billion of business to be generated
