The next wave of technological growth is bringing in greater design complexity and technology convergence, spurring demand across verticals. The increase in product complexity has led to higher demand in precision testing at every stage of product life cycle, starting from design, development, manufacturing and field support, says Sandeep Kapoor, Regional Marketing Head – EMEIA and India, Keysight Technologies. In this interview, he explains how increase in product complexity is leading to requirement of better test and measurement (T&M) equipment.
Are you seeing an increase in traction for your T&M instrument in India?
For the past several months, we have seen growth in large as well as small and medium manufacturers (SMEs) in the country across various industry segments. The products manufactured range from high end systems to basic electronic products & accessories. There are several examples like mobile manufacturing, aerospace and defense systems, automotive electronics, consumer electronics, etc. This is a good indicator for the country as this will help in generating new business opportunities as well as provide job opportunities. One of the major factors that is driving the demand for our T&M instruments is increase in complexity in electronic systems. The increase in product complexity has led to higher demand in precision testing at every stage of product life cycle, starting from design, development, manufacturing and field support. What are the emerging trends in T&M equipment industry?
The next wave of technological growth is bringing in greater design complexity and technology convergence, spurring demand across verticals. The largest set of opportunities are coming from communications, automotive, semiconductors and computing industries. Autonomous driving, 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), data centres, power applications, and new high-speed digital standards are the growth engines of the electronic test and measurement (T&M) equipment market for the next five years.
Is the demand for hand-held (mobile) T&M instrument growing more strongly than stationary T&M?
The demand for both T&M instruments (mobile and stationary) is growing at an equal proposition. With the small and medium manufacturing industry on one hand, the hand-held instruments are gaining more traction. Whereas, in high end R&D scenario for segments like chipset design, electronic warfare, Satcom testing etc, there is a growth in benchtop T&M instruments.
Electronic components in every product (consumer as well as industrial) are increasing. How is this trend offering an opportunity to Keysight?
Automotive electronics is one of the latest examples in electronic components field. The automotive industry is accelerating its electronic technology revolution and fusing with the clean energy ecosystem. With the rapid advances in e-mobility, autonomous driving and connected cars, we are heading for an altogether different paradigm for automotive electronics. One of the most ambitious areas of automotive innovation is autonomous driving. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for current mainstream human-driven vehicles and autonomous driving systems in prototype stage are dramatically improving safety and will save many lives.
Has the industrial slowdown in the industry affected T&M equipment sector?
At Keysight, we have not experienced any slowdown in the last few months because of the growth of R&D. Keysight offers solutions starting from the design, simulation, development, manufacturing to optimisation. With the increase in demand in R&D, our overall growth has not been affected.
