Vimag Labs has commenced operations at its first dedicated manufacturing facility at Met City, Jhajjar, Haryana. The facility manufactures and assembles motor and control systems and related propulsion systems, including the company’s proprietary magnet-free motor technology, supported by testing infrastructure and advanced production systems. Its first production batch has already been completed and exported.

The site marks the start of a phased manufacturing build-out in India, with planned investment of around Rs 500 million. Capital will be deployed progressively as customer programmes, product volumes and capacity requirements develop. The overall investment will evolve with market traction and expansion opportunities.

The expansion aims to develop and industrialise advanced propulsion technologies in India for global customers. Vimag is evaluating additional capacity and locations while building a nationwide network of manufacturing, supply-chain and industrialisation partners. The objective is to establish a flexible production base that scales with customer traction and supports domestic and global programmes.

The Jhajjar facility currently covers 10,000 sq ft, with scope to expand to approximately 20,000 sq ft. Its initial phase focuses on industrialisation, process validation and serial production of mid-power motor and control systems.

The manufacturing setup includes clean-room areas, digitally connected production systems, Industry 4.0 and IoT-enabled monitoring, traceability and a highly automated production line. It is designed to combine advanced motor and control technology with repeatable, scalable and quality-controlled manufacturing rather than function as a conventional assembly facility.

Manish Seth, Co-founder and CEO, Vimag Labs, said: “The commencement of manufacturing marks an important transition for Vimag from technology development and validation into industrialisation and serial production. Jhajjar is the first step in a broader manufacturing build-out. We are currently planning around Rs 50 crore of investment, to be deployed in phases as customer programmes, traction and product requirements develop. The scale and timing of investment will evolve with demand as we build capacity and deepen our manufacturing base. The first production batch has already been exported from Jhajjar, demonstrating that the facility has moved into commercial manufacturing.”

He added, “Our initial focus is on scaling mid-power motor and control systems for commercial programmes. As customer programmes mature, we plan to extend manufacturing into high-power systems of 570 kW and above and deepen partnerships across India for manufacturing, supply chain, tooling and industrialisation. Our long-term goal is to build a globally competitive production base in India for domestic and international customers.”

Vimag is developing its manufacturing system to scale towards capacity of up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month as programme volumes increase. The initial focus is on mid-power applications across electric mobility and other electrified systems.

Manufacturing of higher-power systems rated at 570 kW and above is planned as customer programmes and product requirements mature. These systems will require additional manufacturing, testing and industrialisation infrastructure. Capacity will be added across locations according to customer demand and product mix.

The company is working with multiple customers and industry partners across vehicle and application segments. The manufacturing expansion will support existing programmes and future production requirements.

As the build-out scales, Vimag expects to create approximately 100–150 direct and indirect employment opportunities across manufacturing, quality, testing, engineering, supply chain and operations. Local recruitment will form an important part of workforce expansion.

Vimag Labs recently raised US$5 million in a Series A round led by Accel, with participation from Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate. It has also signed a manufacturing MoU with Jendamark Pvt. Ltd. to support VMSM production scale-up and is developing an India-wide network of manufacturing, component, tooling and industrialisation partners for domestic and global customer programmes.

The company has additionally secured an exclusive US technology licensing, manufacturing and commercialisation agreement for a production-ready, bidirectional high-voltage inverter platform capable of operating at up to 1,000 volts.
