Siemens' digitalisation solutions for Vedanta

May 2017 – Siemens Limited announced that it has secured an order for Digital Fleet Center Solution from Vedanta Ltd., India's leading natural resources company, to connect its power plant assets at Talwandi Sabo Power Plant (TSPL) in Punjab and Bharat Aluminum Company Limited (BALCO) in Chhattisgarh. Digitally linking these critical power units to Vedanta's monitoring station will serve to analyse huge amounts of fleet data for continuous monitoring and diagnostics of these assets. This will enable proactive maintenance to help reduce unplanned outages, thereby, optimising costs and increasing availability of Vedanta's power assets. Siemens will initially provide three years of maintenance and service support to help ensure continued reliability and operational performance.

As an established global leader in the advancement of digitalisation across a wide variety of industries, Siemens has developed comprehensive Digital Fleet Center Solutions that enable power plant fleet operators to seamlessly connect their power generation assets (turbines, generators, boilers and balance of plants), and leverage the power of vast amount of data generated by these machines.

Samir Cairae, CEO – Diversified Metals (India), Vedanta Limited, said, "Innovation and Sustainability are at the core of the strategy of Vedanta. As a part of that thrust, Vedanta uses digital technology extensively in mining but also in increasing reliability and output of our plants and equipment. Vedanta intends to intensify the use of digital further, to optimise but also for breakthroughs. For our power plants, we would use digital technology to increase availability, to do predictive maintenance and to better manage our fuel feeds. This will also enable us to monitor critical functions of Vedanta's power plants in real time by using the richness and intelligence of digital information."

Prashant Jain, Head, Power Generation Services, Siemens Limited, said, "Vedanta has been one of the pioneers in the implementation of innovative technology solutions and automation across its plants and processes. As a provider of integrated digitalisation solutions across the production value chain, Siemens is delighted to partner Vedanta in its continuous journey of modernisation of its power assets across India. Digitalisation has a huge role to play in India's demand for reliable, efficient and clean power, due to the increasing urbanisation and industrialisation. We look forward to this and future collaborative opportunities that will contribute to India's sustainable progress."

Over the past years, Siemens' remote diagnostic engineers have gathered data from thousands of machines across the globe. The Remote Diagnostic Centers (RDCs), in the last year alone, generated a large number of Proactive Notifications; 40 per cent of which avoided forced outages and 20 per cent transformed forced outages into planned activities. As a pioneer in the rapid growth of digitalisation, Siemens is well-positioned to provide the digital solutions, experience and know-how these companies seek to help them manage costs and improve the availability of their energy assets.
