Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has emphasised the numerous co-development and co-production opportunities emerging in India's defence sector due to the progressive reforms initiated by the Modi government. Speaking in Washington, Singh extended an invitation to foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), including those from the United States, to establish manufacturing units in India, form joint ventures, and consider India as an alternative export base.

Singh highlighted the significance of the planned co-production of GE 414 aero-engines in India, calling it a major milestone in India-US bilateral relations. He noted that ‘Partnership’ and ‘Joint Efforts’ are key elements that set India’s defence industry collaborations apart from those with other nations.

The interaction with senior leadership from major US defence and technology companies, including Boeing, GE, General Atomics, General Dynamics Land Systems, L3Harris, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, Rolls-Royce, and ThayerMahan, was a significant highlight of Singh's visit. Indian companies such as ideaForge, Tata Sons, and Tsecond, along with senior leaders from The Cohen Group, also participated in the event, where they discussed ongoing projects and future plans for India, providing valuable feedback.

Singh's engagement with US defence companies followed closely on the heels of the US's approval of a potential foreign military sale of anti-submarine warfare sonobuoys and related equipment to India, valued at approximately $52.8 million, intended for the multi-mission MH-60R Seahawk helicopters.

During his four-day visit to the US, Singh held significant meetings with US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and other key officials, where discussions focused on the evolving geopolitical landscape and the ongoing defence industrial collaboration between the two nations.
