The Meter Division of Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers' Association (IEEMA), India's nodal agency representing the manufacturers of electrical, industrial electronics and allied equipments in India, has announced the 5th Seminar in the series of Metering India, to be held on 21st & 22nd February 2013 at New Delhi. The Seminar would provide a forum for interaction on various issues related to energy metering in the country. This initiative by IEEMA is to provide deeper insights into the topics, which are of utmost importance during the current scenario as well as the future into which Indian Power sector is poised to take another quantum technological leap

Commenting on Metering India 2013, Mr Ramesh Chandak, President, IEEMA, said "We aspire to live in a smarter world which is instrumented, interconnected and intelligent. We expect technology to add value to our lives and make it simpler. Smart Electricity delivery system, in which Electricity suppliers and consumers are connected, is the core of Smart Future. Energy Meter is a key element of this network because it interfaces consumers with the utilities."

As we march towards responsive Power System through Smart Grids, it is imperative to dwell on our achievements, aspirations and our readiness towards the same. "With Metering India 2013," said Mr Sunil Singhvi, Chairman IEEMA Meter Division, "we are at a very interesting milestone in our journey towards the smarter tomorrow. Utilities have invested heavily on the IT infrastructure but are yet to use the data smartly. The last mile connectivity and consumer participation has its own set of expectations from Energy Metering. Initiatives like Demand Side Management, Renewable Integration, TOD (Time of the Day) Tariff implementation, Consumer home energy management will add another dimension to Revenue protection for the utility and the same may pose new challenges to the Energy Metering Industry. Time has come to redefine the very purpose of metering beyond just metering in the context of smart future, hence the theme for the Seminar has been selected as "...A journey towards Smart Future".
