Mumbai, 30 May, 2014: In continuation with the outstanding contribution to the manufacturing sector, Godrej Process Equipment has recently manufactured an extremely large High Pressure (HP)/Low Pressure (LP) Flash Column for the Iowa Fertilizer Project in USA. Orascom, Egypt's largest company, is building a fertilizer plant in Iowa to tap into cheap US natural gas from shale reserves. This project is a melting pot of cross cultural dynamics, with KBR, USA being the technology provider for the project. Tecnimont, Italy being the Engineering Procurement Construction Contractor, Orascom, Egypt being the end-user to set up the plant and Godrej Process Equipment is responsible for the detailed engineering and manufacturing of the HP/LP Flash Column and Secondary Reformer.

This stainless steel clad HP/LP Flash Column has Carbon Steel as its base material and stainless steel internals. A diameter of 5.5/6.6 m, standing 57 m tall and weighing around 400 MT, this gigantic equipment, makes it a challenging equipment to handle and ship in one piece.

Speaking on this achievement, Allen B Antao, Executive Vice President & Business Head, Godrej Process Equipment said "The HP/LP Flash Column is a significant addition to the long list of critical equipment manufactured by Godrej that are operating in large process plants in the United States. The order for this equipment, which is critical to KBR's Ammonia process, was won against stiff international competition. Notwithstanding the very high transportation cost, that such equipment are being sourced from India and shipped all the way to the US underscores our value proposition to our customers."

On the process front, during the production of ammonia, CO2 is produced in the system. In order to be removed from the reaction stream, an Amine solution is used which has affinity for CO2. After the amine solution has absorbed the CO2 it needs to be regenerated in order for it to be used again for further CO2 removal. The HP/LP flash column helps regenerate this amine solution.
