October 08, 2012 - Vector Consulting Group, the leading consulting firm specialising in Theory of Constraints (TOC) in India, has won the prestigious award for 'Best Supply Chain Consultant of the Year' at the 6th ELSC Manufacturing Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2012, held at the Taj Lands End, Mumbai. Vector won the award for exhibiting successful implementation of its acclaimed Theory of Constraints concept, in bringing operational excellence and quality to its clients. Mr Kiran Kothekar, Founding Director, Vector Consulting Group, received the award on behalf of the company.

While conventional approach believes in a push based supply chain model, the Theory of Constraints uses the principles of hard sciences to develop simple yet powerful pull based supply chain model in variety of environments. Vector Consulting Group has been working with Indian clients to help them garner market share in their respective markets by building such unique supply chain capabilities. The firm works extensively with many organizations in the Tata, Godrej and the Raymond Group.

Speaking on the occasion Kiran Kothekar said, "Traditionally supply chain has been looked upon from two view points:

  • A view point is that it is a complex chain of multiple varying constraints coupled with variability and managing it is a "rocket science" so we need the latest IT gizmo in the town to get some predictability of outcomes
  • Or another view point that Supply chain is drain on company due to wastages and hence one needs to continuously work towards reducing costs of purchasing, warehousing, transportation etc."

The most important aspect that has been neglected over the years is opportunity to use the supply chain as a marketing differentiator. We at Vector have been working with companies to make them see the inherent simplicity of their supply chain and then build unique capabilities to offer as a market differentiator for enhancing sales rather than just reducing costs. We believe this award is recognition for the efforts to bring about this paradigm shift of viewing the supply chain.

The prestigious 6th ELSC Manufacturing Supply Chain Excellence Awards are given out each year in India by the business group 'KamiKaze,' recognizing an outstanding performance and contribution of players to the industry.
