Industries and workforce is coping with the new normal of work-from-home, resulting in rise of UPS both at industrial and home user base. Data Centers are spearheading the UPS growth in India. Amitanshu Satpathy, Managing Director, Best Power Equipments (BPE) delves into recent trends, exports and improvement areas in the UPS industry, in an email interaction with Pushkar Oak.
The global uninterrupted power supply (UPS) market was valued at $ 7.4 billion in 2019, and is projected to reach $ 9.4 billion by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 4.3 per cent from 2020 to 2027. The market is driven by increase in need for reliable and high quality energy solutions for various industries including data centres, telecommunication etc. Moreover, the growing population and frequent power failures for both commercial and residential sectors will positively impact the market growth.
The emerging economies, such as China, India, and Japan are actively investing in uninterrupted power supply market which will further impact the market scenario. During the covid BPE have seen a surge in the demand. This can be due to social distancing & work from home which resulted in the increasing demand among the residential segment. In India, we are seeing UPS demand to grow by 25-30 per cent every year.
Share about BPE’s export footprint? What
do you expect from the government to encourage exports?
BPE is already exporting to ASEAN and African countries and wish to
expand it further. Government should provide more financial support for trade
promotions and missions. There is a need for government intervention to provide
more direct help especially in the difficult markets and aids to find partners.
There is a need for more consistent long term approach towards developing
markets. Better duty exemption scheme would also
encourage exporters.
How is BPE developing over the growth in Data Centers in India?
Availability of a wide range is key while supplying Data Centres. Our range comprises modular UPSs from 10-4800 kva, IDU (Integrated DATA Unit), rack mountable small UPS suitable for workplaces with networking and server applications etc. BPE have already installed its solutions at various data centres all over India, such as Yotta Data Centre, HDFC Bank, IDBI bank, J&K State Data Centre etc.
Apart from this, we have our product range in solar on-grid inverters and we planning to expand the same.
With rise of automation, has BPE
encountered a rise in demand? Share any stats to support the same?
We have encountered a rise in demand. The kind of installations we are doing is a testimony to this fact. We have installed many UPSs in various industries like Paper Mills, Sugar Mills, Hospital Automation etc. The demand from this segment is quite high and we are fulfilling the same. Yes we Meanwhile, in future we will be focussing on digitalisation.
What are your thoughts over Government eMarketplace (GeM) and support for MSMEs?
Yes,
we are quite happy with government procurement, especially GeM portal and other
support provided to MSMEs. Government procurements have been highly transparent
after the introduction of GeM. BPE has been benefitted with this.
