With about 4000 visitors from around 22 countries, Weld India 2020 and International Congress 2020, to be held in Navi Mumbai between 6-9 February, will bring around 250 industry veterans, who will deliberate on concerns and future of welding industry in India.

 

India has emerged as one of the fastest growing economies in the world and is expected to be one of the top three economic powers in the world over the next 10-15 years. Backed by its strong democracy and international partnerships, India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has increased 6.6 per cent in 2017-18 and is expected to grow 7.3 per cent in 2018-19. In April-July quarter of 2018-19, the GDP grew by 8.2 per cent. India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose 5.4 per cent year-on-year in April-July 2018. The Government of India, under the Make in India initiative, is trying to boost the contribution from the manufacturing sector and aims to take it up to 25 per cent of the GDP from the current 17 per cent.

 

The 5th International Welding Congress & the 13th Weld India Exhibition will be organised by IIW India in association with the International Institute of Welding from February 6 to 9, 2020 in Navi Mumbai. It is themed at ‘Advanced Welding Technology & Quality Systems for Developing Economies’. It will serve as an answer to the needs of the industries. 

 

22 countries from all over the world and the Industries at the special exclusive Skill Development Needs of the Indian industries will be discussed. The experiences of various successful models implemented at various levels will be shared by the expert team from India, Canada, China, Australia and the various sectors of the Government of India.  The National Welding Capability workshop will be organised to identify and prepare the roadmap to close the technological gaps that exists today which is being seen as a big hurdle to meet the global challenges that face the Indian market. IIW India has formed a core team to implement the changes that needs to be introduced is already in place. 

 

The Weld India 2020 will showcase the latest technologies developed globally to meet the challenges and the participation of various industries and the training institutes to open opportunity to over 4000 industrial visitors and the delegates to understand the new techniques that can be used to reduce the gap in the needs of the skill development.

 

Bridging skill gap

 

As the need of the skilled workforce is swelling in the country on a continued basis and to achieve the national objective of making India a 5 trillion economy, the Indian Institute of Welding (IIW) India with the support from Ministry of Skill Development, and National Skill Development Corporation are exploring all the possibilities of closing the gap of the skilled workforce need in the country to meet the gap between technology and skills. 

 

R Srinivasan, Past President, IIW and Co-Chairman of the National Organising Team, IIW, says “The skill level and the technological gap that exist today in the micro small, small & medium enterprises (MSME) sector is a major concern and is one such issue that worries the growth of the country. The IIW India, a premier welding institute of the country in its mission to develop the upgradation of the welding science and technology in metal joining technique has devised multi stage activities to help the identified sectors of the country which will be showcased in the 13th Weld India Exhibition. With strong base of over 5000 welding professionals and the 300 industries of both private and public sector as the members IIW India has taken up the task of introducing structured way of training and certifications methods.”

 

R Srinivasan concludes that industries will be benefitted largely by associating with this event, as over 150 technical papers are likely to be presented.
