Danfoss India’s RAC lab and training centre inaugurated in Puducherry

Danfoss India has unveiled its latest Danfoss Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) lab and training centre at the Swami Vivekananda Rural Community College, Puducherry. This has been done keeping in mind the company’s commitment towards engineering tomorrow’s India and fostering the talent of young RAC technicians.

The enhanced Danfoss RAC lab was inaugurated by the Governor of Puducherry, Dr. Kiran Bedi in the presence of Dr. Xavier Alphonse, Director, Indian Centre for Research & Development of Community Education, G V Subrahmanian, Director, Swami Vivekananda Rural Community College and Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss India.

The new set comprises of a fully equipped RAC workshop, 3 training rooms and a project room. This is a step towards extending support to create a sustainable livelihood for students from economically challenged backgrounds in the local community and help address the skill gap in the Indian RAC industry.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Kiran Bedi said, “In today’s world, cooling has become essential across all agriculture and infrastructure projects. RAC will pave way for the creation of several new jobs in the market. The opportunity that Danfoss has created by setting up this training centre will go a long way in opening up a world of opportunities both in India and the rest of the world for the students in Puducherry.”

Danfoss’ current three-phased continuous engagement programme with SVRCC includes the setting up of high-class lab with Danfoss’ latest compressors, condensing unit and drives technology and a project area that enables students to experiment and innovate on working models in the R&AC space that can be applied into the industry. The second phase includes faculty training programmes, industry visits, certification and a course curriculum review and revamp by Danfoss experts followed by an opportunity for the top students of every batch to visit the Danfoss campus in Oragadam for a special training on Ammonia system plant operation and maintenance. The final phase includes internships, placement support and scholarships being offered to deserving candidates to pursue higher education.

Ravichandran Purushothaman said, “Danfoss’ Skill Development programme is a strategic partnership between the industry and academia that seeks to play an integral role in imparting industry specific knowledge and the latest technology for climate and energy to student communities, besides encouraging them to think innovatively. With Tamil Nadu and Puducherry serving as the coastal belt with vast opportunities for cooling, especially in the Hospitality and Fisheries sector, we believe that our initiatives at the SVRCC campus will go a step ahead in enriching the lives of the youngsters in the region by empowering them with the vocational knowledge required to create a forum of job opportunities in the area.”

Speaking on SVRCC’s partnership with Danfoss, G V Subrahmanian said, “We are immensely grateful for opportunities created by companies like Danfoss for the young communities to rediscover their path towards acquiring education and creating a strong foundation of the future of the youngsters. We are pleased to see all our students well placed and it’s a matter of pride that few of our older batch students have turned into entrepreneurs with their own RAC service centres, providing employment to some of the further batch students.”

As part of Danfoss India’s CSR initiative, Danfoss utilizes its business and domain expertise in energy solutions, refrigeration and air conditioning to enhance the facilities of RAC courses in select Government polytechnics and rural community colleges in various parts of India. These training centres are well equipped with modern infrastructure, Danfoss R&AC products, cut-sections, working models, tool kits, e-learning stations and other learning essentials, that is expected to benefit over 500 students every year in the local communities.
