A gear pump used, can stand the shock loadings common in forklift trucks. A separate tank that is removable for changing has adequate capacity and is mounted close to the pump unite. A removable micronic filter unite is included in the hydraulic system and fitted in the tank. The assembly of the filter element is easy and does not involve removal of the tank or other components. A mesh filter is fitted to the inlet to the pump to prevent dirt entering the system. A pressure relief valve protects the system from overloads. A restrictor valve at the base of the lift jack controls speed of decent of load even in the unlikely event of the house failure.
