Bucket Elevators

Bucket elevators are employed to elevate bulk materials to the desired height by means of elevating member such as belt or chain. These are classified according to the principles of material discharge, viz. centrifugal discharge, continuous discharge and positive discharge. The product handled, its characteristics, elevating height and throughput governs the type of bucket elevator and its elevating member (whether belt/chain). The bucket elevator casings are twin leg of appropriate height and thickness depending upon the applications. The bottom and top casing sections are thicker than the intermediate casings and are provided with large doors for maintenance and inspection. The buckets, provided in several variants depending on the application and duty, have various shapes; and the spacing on the elevating member is decided by the type of elevator. The bucket elevators are designed for a high factor of availability with adequate service and safety factors. Every component is designed to provide the rated service life. Various optional factors such as dust removal ports (to be connected to dust extraction system), explosion venting panels, pressure and temperature sensing instrumentation, zero speed switches, static electricity conductor, etc., can be provided. The bucket elevator design is a grave task, which requires meticulous attention in each and every aspect, and beyond the scope of this write-up.
