Bridge & Roof Co (India), a subsidiary of Bharat Yantra Nigam Ltd is a Govt of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Heavy Industries. It is engaged in a large way in the construction industry in India as well as overseas. The Howrah works unit of the company is well equipped with modern sophisticated plant, machinery and highly skilled manpower where besides several engineering products, `Insulated Bunk Houses' are also regularly manufactured since early 1985. These bunk houses are made of steel structures of standard sizes 20’ x 8’ x 8 ½’, 18’ x 8’ x 8 ½’ and 30’ x 10 x 8 ½’ having main entry steel door. These are properly insulated and finished with PVC decorative laminates with concealed electrical wirings required for lights, fans and air conditioners, etc., and are reliable for safe operation in any climatic conditions in India. These bunk houses are well ventilated, comfortable and transportable from one place to other on trucks/trailers as and when required. Since the bunk houses are suitable for dwelling, it solves the national housing problem by providing modern equipped living facilities, which are not available at remote places. The weight of each bunk house varies from 3 to 4 MT, depending upon the types. The various types of bunk houses are under current manufacturing range: living accommodation unit with 2/4/8 berths, office accommodation unit, site office accommodation with toilet block, toilet unit with bath, pantry with dining unit, medical/dispensary unit, stores unit, computer-telephone exchange unit, record and print room unit, conference hall, laboratory unit, office/rest room unit, DIC/SIC (drilling/site-in-charge) unit with berth. These are used by many public sector companies, especially ONGC, as a part of development of infrastructure like office/store/living accommodation, etc., at project/drilling sites for construction/drilling people, the only solution for such quick mobilisation.
