Heat checking is final test on surface of a die, which produces corresponding raised veins on die-casting. Heat checking is caused by repeated heating of die surfaces by injected molten alloys. Surfex shot peening process prevents heat checking and extend life of die-casting die by 2 to 3 times. Thus there is substantial reduction in cost due to extension in service life of die on account of saving associated for making new die. Water cooling holes are also drilled closure to cavity for obtaining better cooling but die-casting users report defects due to water seepage through cracks developed on water cooling holes.
