Davenport Machine, USA, offers LS.522 CNC Linear Servo Multi-Spindle Automatic. It combines the latest in machine tool design with Davenport's experience in building multi-spindle automatics for over 100 years. Features include: The polymer composite base and headstock form the foundation of the machine's high accuracy and stability. The material is rigid, thermally stable, and has vibration absorbing capacity ten times that of cast iron. Linear servo drives replace the cams on all cross and end tool slides. To emulate the stroke motion generated by a cam, these compact servos convert rotary torque to linear motion of output shafts through the use of a roller screw mechanism. The output shafts in turn are connected directly to the tool spindles and cross slides. A hirth multiple tooth coupling is used to seat the spindle carrier. Indexing position of the spindle carrier is critical to workpiece dimensional accuracy. Index time is 0.4 second minimum, with a positioning accuracy of ?3 seconds of an arc. It has an industrial hardened PC for control of the LS-522. To actuate the axes slides, a motion control board is used to communicate between the computer and the servos. A SERCOS loop feedback system, which uses fibre-optic cables, carries positioning data to and from the servo motors. The WINDOWS based programming allows for quick and easy input of data through MDI, floppy disc, or RS232 port. It has pre-loaded angular contact ball bearings on which the five work+D524 spindles are mounted. There are three bearings located at the front of the spindle, and two at the rear. Lubrication is supplied through an oil mist system. The stiff spindle construction allows for high RPM at low operating temperatures, resulting in improved component tolerance. A chip and coolant system consisting of a coolant tank is mounted on castors. Inside the tank chip conveyor and a coolant pump are mounted. The tank can be easily rolled in and out of the opening in the base of the machine for servicing. Automatic bar loader is designed for use with LS-522. Manual bar loading is eliminated, as is the feeding of short parts. Side loading of bar stock saves space. Programming and diagnostics are integrated in the machine control, resulting in improved overall efficiency of the machine. Pre-set tooling is available for both cross and end working tool slides. Combined with the ease of programming, this allows profitability for smaller volume production runs never before considered cost effective on a multiple spindle screw machine. Total machine enclosure with power operated doors, assures clean, safe, and quiet operation as expected in today's modem machine shop.
