Eddy current based NDT Tool – Non-destructive testing (NDT) is a very important tool in manufacturing industries to test and assure the products manufactured are guaranteed to perform as per specifications.
- It is not possible to test every component destructively and therefore, non-destructive testing is required for 100% testing. Say for example, when a shaft is induction hardened, the case depth is to be assured
- The variation of case depth will happen; location of case hardening may change; if the shaft is passed through the eddy current coil then it can give the assurance that, with reference to the master it is OK/Not OK and this can be done on 100% of the components, reducing mandatory cutting of samples every shift, and
- In eddy current sorting/assurance the overall comparison of the job is done with respect to the confirmed OK sample and the change in coil impedance is related to change in metal properties/structure.
