Multi Stage Steam Turbines

Like in condensing turbines, the energy in these turbines is available in the live inlet steam, used to the extent possible by expanding the live steam in the turbine below atmospheric pressure (vacuum). The steam is finally exhausted from the turbine at vacuum to the surface condenser where the latent heat of exhaust steam is transferred to the cooling water. This type of turbine finds application where steam is utilised only for power generation.
