Microprocessor controlled sinusoidal inverters are now available with 24O V AC, 50 Hz output in 150 W to 4 kW capacity using 12 V DC/24 V DC lead acid batteries. The 500 W unit typically delivers 1400 W for short durations and 650 W for 30 minute duration. There is no power factor limitation for inductive loads. The 50 Hz sinusoidal wave shape with total harmonic distortion (THD) less than 0.5% is retained from no load to 110% overload condi tions. There are no harmonic contents, distortion, wave clipping or zero crossing errors as obtained with PWM and other carrier modulated control systems. The compact, all solid state unit operates at 92% efficiency and the no load power loss is less than 2 W. Short circuit protection, under and overvoltage protection, etc, are standard features. All units are very light in weight, eg, a 150 W unit weighs 2.5 kg while a 500 W unit weighs only 6.5 kg. Complex grid interactive inverters with 3O outputs /and frequency/phase synchronisation as well as overload handling are available with the latest Australian and Swiss technology.
