Vacuum Generators, Multi-Venturi

When design engineers think about vacuum generators, they think of relatively small units with low flow rates. Most engineers consider them a low-cost source of vacuum suitable only for lifting, holding and pick and place applications where vacuum is needed intermittently. When a continuous high-flow source of vacuum is required, engineers will generally use a motor-driven vacuum pumps generate high flow rates, and are much more energy efficient in these applications. Vacuum pumps produce vacuum directly from electrical power. With generators, there is an inherent double loss in energy efficiency – first when electrical energy is used to compress air, then when the compressed air is used to generate vacuum. However, depending on the application, Gast Manufacturing’s line of manifolded multi-venturi vacuum generators may offer another choice. These generators have flow rates comparable to motor driven vacuum pumps. And, while they are still not as energy efficient as conventional pumps, engineers may want to sacrifice energy efficiency and choose a vacuum generator for one of its other attributes. As with other Gast vacuum generators, no lubrication or other scheduled maintenance is required. If performance does drop, the vacuum generators only need to be disassembled, and cleaned using mild detergent and warm water. The whole process, including reassembly, takes only minutes. While the cost of assets increase with the installation of these generators, the maintenance and down-time cost reductions can more than make up the difference.
