GGB, formerly Glacier Garlock Bearings, now offers its DB™ self-lubricating, maintenance-free bearing material for heavy-duty applications, such as the offshore industry, underwater equipment, bridges and civil engineering, iron and steel industry equipment, cranes and conveyors, mining equipment and construction and earthmoving equipment. The DB™ material delivers excellent performance under high loads and intermittent operation. Its structure consists of cast bronze with graphite-free solid lubricant inserts which exhibit a lower wear rate and longer service life than graphite. This structure provides an ultra-low coefficient of friction, maximum wear resistance, long service life and absolute corrosion resistance, even in wet, dirty environments and exposure to seawater. DB™ bearings can withstand a maximum static load of 200 MPa and a dynamic load of 100 MPa. Recommended maximum sliding speed dry is 0.5 m/s. Maximum pU factor is 1.5 MPa x m/s. Operating temperature range is –50°C to +350°C. Coefficient of friction dry is 0.05-0.18. Recommended shaft surface finish Ra is 0.2-0.8 µm. The DB material is available as cylindrical and flanged bushes, thrust washers, self-aligning bearings, sliding plates and custom spherical bearings for hydropower applications.
