Deepak Drives have developed an aluminium alloy asymmetric, variable specd drive suitable for motor rating from 0.37 to 30 kW. The speed variation is in the ratio of 8: 1. The drive consists of two variable speed pulleys and a belt. One of the pulleys is mechanically adjustable and the other gets automatically adjusted. Both the pulleys work at a fixed centre distance. Speed variation can be achieved by applying pressure on the driving pulley by means of the hand wheel of the spindle assembly which is supplied along with the drive. Ideally, these drives can be integral part of machines and speed adjustment can be achieved by simple screw, cam, lever arm, servo motor, hydraulic or pneumatic actuators, etc. The speed can be adjusted while the machine is in operation. The drive has unique features like automatic torque dependent pressure device. Depending on power to be transferred, it ensures optimum axial contact pressure automatically on the V-belt. Greater the torque, greater is the contact pressure. This means the belt does not slip during intermittent operation, under excessive load, or when the machine starts with flywheel effect (GD). These features of the system guarantee very high efficiency even under partial load and ensure longer belt life.
