Set against the background of the recent power outage in northern and eastern grids that took 600 million people back into the Stone Age, Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), Indian Wind Energy Association (InWEA) and the Indian Wind Power Association (IWPA) have made a joint presentation at the MNRE round table calling for immediate action on key pending policy actions that can accelerate the capacity addition to the sector and bolster India's power equation with contribution from the wind energy sector.
Key Charter of appeal to the ministry:
Estimating the potential need to install over 4500 MW of wind energy capacity every year for the next 10 years to meet India's target as outlined in the National Action Plan on Climate Change, the association stressed on the need to have clarity on key policy issues outlined above that will help add to the clean energy capacity in the country.
Wind Energy is the only category that has seen its entire investments coming in from the private sector (in the last 25 years over Rs 80,000 crore has been invested in wind energy), active participation from Central and State Governments in creating green energy capacities in the country is unavoidable.
Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) was started 15 years ago with a vision to promote and harness wind energy for sustained growth in the country. Representing all the leading manufacturers and eco-system partners in the Wind Energy sector, IWTMA has the best interest of creating a green energy revolution (clean energy) in India; globally networked and aligned with leading wind energy organizations, this apex body attempts to address common issues related to policy, technology, manufacturing, installation of wind capacity in the country.
